HOW MUCH DOES CUSTOM MILLWORK COST?

Understand the investment before we begin the design.

Custom cabinetry and architectural millwork can vary significantly in cost depending on scale, materials, construction, finish and complexity.

Before we measure or begin designing, we'll help establish a realistic investment range for your project—so the design and the budget are aligned from the start.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TO INVEST?

BUILT-INS & FOCAL WALLS

Custom millwork designed for a defined wall or area of a room.

Bookcases & Display Built-Ins

$4,000–$8,000+

Custom shelving and cabinetry designed for a specific wall, including open bookcases, display shelving and combinations of doors, drawers and open storage.

Entertainment & Media Built-Ins

$5,000–$10,000+

Custom cabinetry surrounding or supporting a television, with options for concealed components, wiring, adjustable shelving, lighting and integrated storage.

Fireplace & Feature Walls

$4,500–$10,000+

Architectural millwork designed around fireplaces and focal walls, including base cabinetry, floating shelves, mantels, paneling and integrated details.

ROOM-SCALE & SPECIALTY MILLWORK

Larger projects involving multiple cabinet sections, specialized storage, work surfaces or more extensive architectural integration.

Home Offices & Libraries

$6,000–$15,000+

Custom workspaces, libraries and studies combining cabinetry, shelving, work surfaces, concealed storage and project-specific details.

Bars & Specialty Cabinetry

$5,000–$15,000+

Custom bars, beverage centers and specialty cabinetry designed around the room, appliances, storage requirements and intended use.

Wardrobes & Dressing Areas

$5,000–$15,000+

Built-in wardrobes and dressing areas incorporating hanging storage, shelving, drawers, mirrors, lighting and other personalized features.

Small Cabinetry & Shelving

$2,000–$4,000+

Smaller custom projects such as a vanity, base cabinet with floating shelves, compact storage cabinet or other limited-scope millwork.

These ranges are intended as preliminary budgeting guidance, not quotations. Project size, materials, construction style, finish, hardware, lighting, site conditions and installation requirements can significantly affect final cost.

WHAT DRIVES THE COST OF CUSTOM MILLWORK?

Size & Scope

Construction Style

Construction Style

Overall dimensions, the number of cabinet sections and the amount of storage all affect material, fabrication, finishing and installation costs.

Inset cabinetry, full-overlay construction, open shelving, finished interiors and architectural details require different levels of fabrication and labor.

Materials & Finish

Doors, Drawers & Hardware

Painted versus stained finishes, wood species, custom color matching, finished interiors and specialty surfaces can significantly affect the final investment.

Installation & Site Conditions

Doors, Drawers & Hardware

More doors and drawers mean more components, hardware and fabrication. Door profiles, dovetail drawers, specialty hinges and decorative hardware also affect cost.

Integrated Features

Installation & Site Conditions

Installation & Site Conditions

Lighting, electrical integration, concealed wiring, appliance accommodation, specialty storage, mirrors and other custom features add functionality—and complexity.

Delivery, access, wall and floor conditions, field fitting, electrical or plumbing coordination and the complexity of installation can all influence final cost.

WHY DOES CUSTOM MILLWORK COST MORE?

Designed for Your Space

Stock cabinetry starts with predetermined sizes and configurations. Custom millwork starts with your room—its dimensions, architecture and how you intend to use it.

Built to Your Specifications

Door styles, wood species, finishes, storage, work surfaces, hardware, lighting and architectural details are selected and built specifically for the project.

More Than the Cabinetry

Your investment can include design, engineering, fabrication, finishing, delivery, field fitting and installation—not simply the cabinet boxes themselves.
